Soren's 1 Month Check-up

When you become immersed in the world of pregnancy, you think of time in terms of weeks. And months become confusing because you have your 4-week months of your obstetrician's calendar and you also have your 4 to 5 week calendar month. All of that to say that Soren turned 1 month on the 21st, which happened to be the day that our cat, Harley, was put down. So, it didn't really occur to me to mention his birthday then. That being said, his 1 month check up happened one day shy of being 5 weeks. I know, not really all that important.

Anyways...we took Soren in for his 1 month check up the day before Thanksgiving. The stats:

  • Weight: 11lbs 9oz (between 90th & 95th percentile)
  • Length: 22.5 inches long (85th percentile)
  • Head Circumference: 15.56 inches (90th percentile, according to the WHO chart, but the doc gave us a lower %)
Of course, our doc was pleased with Soren's weight gain in light of his reflux/excessive spitting up. He felt that Soren's reflux sounded like it was more than average, but not necessarily severe. He advised us to increase Soren's Zantac dosage to accommodate his weight gain since the first prescription. If that doesn't work, then he wants us to call and have the prescription changed to the next level medicine.

Everything else checked out fine. His weeping/gunky eye seems to have resolved itself for the most part. And he didn't have to get any shots. Next month we won't be so lucky, although we have delayed the appointment by 2 weeks because we can either get shots 2 days before traveling for Christmas holiday or when we get back. I think that playing the guessing game over how he will react to his first vaccinations is a little silly, so we'll postpone it a little.
